Abstract

962,370. Cathode-ray tubes. MULLARD Ltd. Oct. 11, 1962, No. 38564/62. Addition to 889,005. Heading H1D. In an arrangement described in the parent Specification, wherein the focusing lens of a cathode-ray tube comprises a cylindrical outer electrode providing a field through pairs of substantially rectangular openings arranged longitudinally in quadrature along a coaxial metallic cylinder connected to the anode, the arrangement is reversed so that the openings are replaced by inwardly concave electrodes 11, 14 and the cylinder by openings. The electrode axes may be in quadrature and a potential may be applied between them, or the axes may be arranged co-incidently with the potential of one pair reversed. The outer electrode is preferably formed from a conductive coating which need not be continuous, e.g. to allow connections to the electrodes to pass through, provided that it overlaps the area covered by the electrodes which should preferably subtend an angle between 75-85 degrees. The electrodes may be alternatively of octagonal or othopolygonal shape. The tube may have magnetic deflection means and a deflection magnifying lens. Specification 886,412 also is referred to.
