Abstract
411,120. Cathode-ray tubes. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE, 12, Hallesches Ufer, Berlin. Nov. 30, 1932, No. 33933. Convention date, Nov. 30,1931. [Class 39 (i).] In cathode-ray tubes in which the cathode body K is large compared with its emissive area o and is too large to be regarded as a point as regards its effect on the electrostatic lines of force, the concentrating effect of a negativelybiassed concentrating electrode, such as a Wehnelt cylinder H around the cathode K or an apertured flat or curved surface between the cathode K and the anode A, is improved by making the distance b of the area o from the aperture in the concentrating electrode adjacent the anode A greater than the squareroot of the cross-sectional area of the cathode K in a plane through the area o at right angles to the axis of the tube. Preferred dimensions are specified. If the cathode K is cylindrical, the distance b is greater than the diameter of the cathode. As described in Specifications 392,781 and 395,882, the distance b is less than the radius of the cylinder H or of the aperture in the flat concentrating electrode. The cathode may be indirectly heated by heat conduction or radiation or by electron bombardment.
