Abstract
457,846. Cathode-ray tubes. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE, 10, Wiesenweg, Steglitz, Berlin. March 4, 1935, No. 20744/36. Convention date, March 3, 1934. Divided out of 457,757. [Class 39 (i)] In television cathode - ray tubes highly evacuated or filled with gas at a pressure below 5.10<-5> mm., in which an electron lens produces a real image on the luminous screen of an object such as a circular or square aperture 7 in a diaphragm 6, Fig. 2, the lens is made spherically corrected by forming it as an apertured disc 12 positive with respect to a tubular electrode 9 having an apertured diaphragm 10 within it, the distance of the disc 12 from the diaphragm 10 being at least equal to, and preferably twice, the diameter of the aperture in the diaphragm 10. The diaphragm 10 is at distance from the end 11 of the tube 9 preferably not greater than the radius of the tube 9 and serves to prevent the equipotential surfaces extending too deeply into the end 11 and so to avoid disproportionate refraction of marginal rays : this effect may be aided by spherical segments 33, Fig. 1, inside the end 11. The disc 12 may be part of the anode described in Specification 457,757 and may be connected to the diaphragm 6. Similar considerations may be applied to the spacing of the diaphragm 6 from the control electrode in the form of a cylinder 4 and internal diaphragm 5. Dimensions and voltages are specified : the emissive oxide surface on the indirectly heated cathode 1 may be À3mm. in diameter. A coating 19, magnetic sheath 34, and deflecting plates operated and associated with auxiliary electrodes 13<1> as described in Specification 457,848 may be provided or the ray may be deflected magnetically. Specification 431,327 also is referred to.
