Abstract

457,848. Cathode-ray tubes. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE, 10, Wiesenweg, Steglitz, Berlin. March 4, 1935, No. 25752/36. Convention date, March 3, 1934. Divided out of 457,757. [Class 39 (i)] Television cathode-ray tubes, highly evacuated or filled with gas of less than 5.10<-5> mm. pressure and having an electrostatic reproducing lens and electrostatic deflection in at least one direction, are provided with two auxiliary plates 25 near the aperture of the anode 12 at the side facing the deflecting plates. The auxiliary plates are parallel to the axis of the tube and perpendicular to the adjacent deflecting plates 13, 14 and are both maintained at the same potential relatively to the anode 12 to adjust the refractive power of the lens perpendicular to the deflecting field of the plates 13, 14 so that the image on the luminous screen 8 is a true reproduction of the object reproduced, for example, of the aperture 7 in the diaphragm 6 connected to the anode 12. To produce this effect, the potential of the plates 25 may be adjusted by a potentiometer 9<a> or the plates may be connected directly to the anode 12 and suitably dimensioned. To reduce disturbances in the electron-optical reproduction due to the varying deflecting potentials on the deflecting plates 13 .. 16 and also to avoid trapezium distortion of the picture, the plates are positioned and operated in reverse phase as described in Specification 452,650 and are provided with auxiliary electrodes 13<1>.. 16<1> at their edges. The two auxiliary electrodes associated with each deflecting plate are connected together and to the opposite deflecting plate. The bulb between the anode 12 and the screen 8 is wholly or partly coated with metal 19 earthed through a spring 20 and the anode 12. An earthed iron cylinder 34 not more than À5 mm. thick is provided about the neck of the tube to shield the ray electrically and magnetically. The electron lens 9, 12 may be as described in Specification 457,846. Specification 449,245 also is referred to.
