Abstract

469,455. Cathode ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BRETT, G. F. Jan. 24, 1936, No. 2354. [Class 39 (i)] Cathode-ray tubes for low voltages such as 150-350 volts and with a short length of cathode-ray such as 4 inches are provided with a simple cylindrical envelope E enclosing an indicating screen S which is transverse to and offset from the axis of the electron gun G. The screen is preferably parallel to this axis and to the axis of the envelope E, and can be viewed directly through the side of the envelope or through a lens L with its axis perpendicular to the screen. The screen S is a metal plate coated with fluorescent material and the ray is given a steady deflection towards the screen in addition to the usual deflections at right angles to trace a picture on the screen. The steady deflection may be magnetic and the usual deflections electrostatic, or all deflections may be produced by mutually perpendicular pairs of coils. The gun G may be as described in Specification 469,418. The deflecting wave forms may be modified to avoid trapezium-distortion due to the position of the screen S.
