Abstract
605,572. Cathode-ray tubes. BULL, E. W., and PEMBERTON, M. E. July 28, 1945, No. 19378. [Class 39 (i)] In a cathode-ray tube, pin-cushion or barrel distortion, produced owing to the centre of curvature of the fluorescent or mosaic screen not coinciding with the centre of deflection of the beam, is corrected by providing between the screen and the centre of deflection a field, independent of the deflecting field, which increases in intensity outwardly from the axis of the beam when undeflected. A circular yoke 15, preferably laminated, is positioned in front of the deflecting coils 11, 12, and provided with four coils 16 wound in series about symmetrically disposed segments of the yoke. The angle over which each.coil 16 is wound may be varied and the current in each coil may be adjusted. The coils are fed with steady and/or varying current or voltage such as of saw-tooth form. Electrodes disposed inside the tube may be used instead of and corresponding to the coils 16. Specifications 466,826, 471,103 and 486,467 are referred to.
