Abstract
867,312. Cathode ray tubes. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Dec. 5, 1958 [Dec. 12, 1957], No. 39349/58. Class 39(1). In a cathode ray tube arrangement comprising a screen electrode, an electron gun assembly 1-4 for directing the beam towards the screen, a first pair 8 and a second pair 9 of mutually perpendicular deflecting plates arranged to cause the beam to scan the entire screen, astigmatism due to the deflecting system is corrected by the provision of an electrostatic lens system which includes an apertured diaphragm 12 mounted on an apertured insulating support 18 which is arranged in casing 7 as shown, there being provided means for applying at each instant deflecting voltages which are equal or proportional to the square of the deflecting voltage on the second pair of plates 9. An additional diaphragm 19 may be provided between deflecting plates 8 and the diaphragm 12; the diaphragm 19 has a rectangular slot in it through which the beam passes, and it is connected to the casing 7. When the deflecting voltage on the plates 9 is saw-tooth the correcting voltage is parabolic and the casing 7 is held at zero potential. The electron gun is provided with a second anode 6 which is at the same potential as the inner-tube wall. A similar parabolic potential to that applied to diaphragm 12 is applied to collimating less 4 to reduce field curvature aberration.
