Abstract

821,583. Cathode-ray tubes. POOLE, R. B. May 12, 1958 [May 13, 1957], No. 15078/57. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XL(b)] The main envelope of an image type picture signal generating tube is made of cubical shape and provided at the front end with a projection PWW of square cross-section sealed by a flat window. The focusing coil for the photo-electrons is positioned around this projection and the deflection coil assembly DC for the electrons beam is positioned on the stem portion ES of the tube. The tube may incorporate an electron multiplier. It is stated that picture reproducing tube having cubical envelopes may also be provided. Details of the positioning of the various tube electrodes including the mounting of the fluorescent screen in the core of picture reproducing tubes are given. An adjustable mounting arrangement for such tubes when employed in a colour television system (see Group XL(b)) is described.
