Abstract
728,900. Ion-trapping in cathode-ray tubes RAULAND CORPORATION. Sept. 28, 1951. [Sept. 29, 1950], No. 22671/51. Class 39 (1). An electron gun designed for ion trapping has at least one conducting member, which may be a wire, strip or plate, .supported from one of the cylindrical gun electrodes so as to give the electrostatic field a transverse component; the member is displaced from the axis and no portion of it has a symmetrical counterpart. In the preferred form, Fig. 3, the member is an L- shaped plate 32 secured to second control electrode 18, but alternatively control electrode 18 and/or first anode 21 may carry a strip adjacent the gap between them, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown). The control electrodes 14, 18 and first anode 21 are carried from insulating rods 13 by lugs 15, 19, 22. Permanent magnets 28, 29 with diametrically opposite poles are mounted on sleeve 27 which is axially and rotatably mounted on the tube neck; the magnets give oppositely directed fields, the centring magnet 29 being optional. The tube has magnetic focusing means which assists in forming the beam, magnetic scanning means and a fluorescent screen.
