Abstract

606,653. Cathode-ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. June 26, 1944, No. 12150. Convention date, June 24, 1943. [Class 39 (i)] In a television transmitting - tube, a low velocity beam of electrons is scanned over a spherically concave mosaic screen 4, 5, 6, bearing a charge-image and electrons not collected by the screen are multiplied at a spherically concave secondary emitter 10 and are collected by the second anode 13, the focusing of the beam being effected solely by the electron lens produced by the electrodes 12, 13. The anode 13 may also be secondary emissive, a coarse wire mesh 29 supported by rings 30, 31 acting as the final collector. The centre of deflection 17 and the centre of curvature 18 of the screen 2 do not coincide so that the beam would strike the screen 2 obliquely; this, however, is corrected by electrodes 19, 20 as described in Specification 579,273; the centre of curvature 11 of the secondary emitter 10 is half way between the anodes 12, 13. The aperture 14 in the secondary emitter 10 is preferably 1 mm. in diameter. Dimensions and designing procedure are given; in particular the target diagonal measured as a chordal distance is not greater than 1.3 times the minimum diameter of the anodes 12, 13.
