[Class 39 (i)] In a television receiving tube an image of the cathode or of a cross-sectional plane adjacent the cathode other than an aperture in a diaphragm is produced on the screen by two collecting lenses, the first of which is too weak to produce an image. As shown, the gun comprises a cathode 2, an anode 3 and a Wehnelt cylinder 4. The first lens consists of two cylinders 5, 6, of which the former may be connected to the cathode and the latter to the anode 3. An image of the cathode just beyond the fluorescent screen 9 is produced, and the image is brought onto the screen by a second lens 8 set up by cylinders 6 and 10. The anode 3 may have a cylindrical portion extending towards the cylinder 5, and the Wehnelt cylinder may have a front extension. The dimensioning of the lens systems is discussed in detail.
