Abstract

528,227. Thermionic valves. M-OVALVE CO., Ltd., and ALDOUS, W. H. May 1, 1939, No. 12989. [Class 39 (i)] An electric discharge device, adapted for use in the circuit described in Specification 528,228, comprises within the same envelope 5, a thermionic cathode 1, anode 4, and control grid 2, with or without a screen grid 3, a secondary emissive target 11 and a collector electrode 10 which is connected to or formed integral with the anode 4. A grid 9 between the cathode and electrode 10 is biased so that electrons pass only when the electrode 10 is at a high potential. In a modification, the electrons are focused into a beam and are deflected to reach the secondary emissive target by passing through an aperture in the anode when the latter has a high potential. The deflecting means consists of two plates to which the requisite potentials are given, for example by connection to the anode and screen grid.
