Abstract

640,747. Velocity-modulated tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Dec. 20, 1945, No. 11044/48. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1940. Divided out of 640,697. [Class 39 (i)] In a tube of the type in which the electron beam from cathode 3 and anode 4 passes a first time through a control electrode system 6, 7a, 7b, 8 in which it is velocity-modulated, is reflected by a brake-field electrode system becoming bunched, and passes a second time through the control electrode system to deliver energy to it, the brake field system comprises two electrodes 10, 14 at such potentials that the electric field strength in part of the brake field is considerably weaker than the field strength near the control electrode system. As shown, electrode 14 is a cylinder at cathode potential and electrode 10 is a plate at the far end of the cylinder and at a more negative potential. Specification 640,697 is referred to. The subject-matter is identical with Fig. 2 of Specification 558,143.
