Abstract
491,994. Thermionic valves. M-0 VALVE CO., Ltd., ALDOUS, W. H., and WARREN, G. W. July 2, 1937, Nos. 18444/37 and 13445/38. [Class 39 (i)] In a thermionic valve of the type comprising a linear cathode, an accelerating electrode, and a retarding control electrode outside the accelerator electrode means are provided for ensuring that electrons returned by the control electrode shall be deflected in a direction having a considerable component in a direction at right-angles to the direction of the cathode from the electrode. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2 (18444/37), the anodes 5, 5<1> with retarding control grids 4, 4<1> screening grids 7, 7<1>, and suppressor grids 8, 8<1> are so arranged that a normal to the anode surface passes clear of the cathode 1 ; electrons returned by the grids 4, 4<1> are collected by the electrodes 6, 61. The cathode 1 is surrounded by a control grid 2 and accelerating grid 3, and screen electrodes 9, 9<1> form the electrons into beams directed to the anodes 5, 5<1>. Fig. 1 (13445/38) shows an arrangement in which the electrons are formed by the electrodes 3 into a flat beam on each side of which are arranged the accelerating grid 4, retarding control grid 5 and screen grid 6.
