Abstract

533,471. Thermionic valves. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd. Nov. 8, 1939, No. 29670. Convention date, Nov. 11, 1938. [Class 39 (i) ] In a mixer or like valve having two control grids separated by a positively charged screengrid electrons returning through the screen-grid are deflected by a magnetic field, so as not to reach the first control grid. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the axes of the cathode I and first control grid 2 are at an angle of 120 degrees with that of the first screen-grid 3, second control grid 4, second screen-grid 5 and the anode 6. The electrons issuing from the cathode are caused by a magnetic field to follow the curved path 8, returning electrodes following the path 9 and striking an auxiliary electrode 7. Fig. 2 shows the invention applied to a system of coaxial electrodes. Electrons issuing from the cathode 10 are formed by electrodes 18 into a beam which is caused by a magnetic field to take the curved path 19 through a control grid 11, screen-grid 12, an auxiliary grid 13, and second control and screen-grids 14, 15. Returning electrodes take the path 20 and strike solid portions 17 of the grid 13.
