Abstract
617,187. Thermionic valves. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. May 17, 1946, Nos. 14968 and 14969. Convention dates, Aug. 5, 1939, and April 9, 1940. [Class 39 (i)] In a mixer valve with at least five electrodes between the cathode and anode, reckoning from the cathode the first, fourth, fifth and if present the sixth electrode are constructed as-grids, the third consists of a small number of rods or plates 5, Fig. 1, while the second is a number of rods or plates 4 arranged to ensure uniform spreading of the electrons. The capacity between the first and fourth electrodes added to the capacity between the third and fourth electrodes is adjusted to be about equal to the capacity between the second and fourth electrodes. The first two electrodes 2, 4 constitute the local oscillator, the plates acting as the anode and concentrating the electrons into a beam or beams depending on the valve arrangement. Electrons returning from the control grid 6-the fourth electrode-are taken up by the plates 4. The rod electrode 5 is directly connected-inside or outside the valve-to the first grid and the sixth suppressor grid 8 to the cathode 1. The electrode 6 is connected to the input circuit. To prevent electron oscillation between the first grid and local oscillator anode, the latter is constituted by four rods 3, Fig. 3; two rods 4 are placed in front of the rods 5 forming the third intermediate electrode and are connected to these rods 5 and to the first grid 2. The two sets of rods 4, 5 may be replaced by plates extending between the rods 3. The rods 4 may be connected to the cathode. The subject-matter is identical with that of Specification 550,104.
