[Class 39 (i)] A valve comprises an indirectly-heated cathode, one or more grids and one or more anodes so arranged that all points of the cathode at the same level are not equidistant from the other electrodes, and one or more rods, which are not electrode supports, are provided at points where the distance between the cathode and the other electrodes is greatest, these rods being maintained at such a positive potential that the tube cannot function as a double diode triode. In one form two rods, connected to a positive potential are arranged on the major axes of an oval cylindrical grid and anode and at the opposite sides of a circular cylindrical cathode. The arrangement is stated to increase the steepness of the characteristic by reducing space charge. Specifications 414,506 and 419,888 are referred to.
