475,467. Thermionic valves. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. March 9, 1937, No. 6963. Convention date, March 12, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] A discharge device for amplifying or generating ultra short waves is provided with two sets of electrodes, each comprising a water-cooled anode and at least two grids, one of which is a screening grid, and the screening grids are connected by a straight connection 10-15 cms. long passing through the anodes. The Figure shows an arrangement in which both sets of electrodes are contained in the same envelope 1. The anodes 12, 13 are made of coiled tubes through which water is passed and are formed with openings through which passes a straight lead 14 connecting the grids 10, 11.
