[Class 39 (i)] A discharge tube contains a thermionic cathode, one or more grids, an anode and a secondary-electron-emitting electrode which in operating conditions attains a temperature of 500‹ C. or more. The " poisoning " of the secondary emitter by barium evaporated from the thermionic cathode is prevented. The secondary emitter may comprise barium oxide.
