479,190. Electrode materials. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Oct. 9, 1937, No. 27502. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] An electric discharge tube contains one or more secondary-electron-emitting electrodes which have been prepared outside the tube by causing the vapour of an active material to deposit on a core body. Deposition of vaporized material on undesired parts of the tube is thus avoided, and the electrodes so prepared are stable in air. The active material may be an alkali or alkaline earth metal, such as barium vaporized in an evacuated vessel on nickel plates which are heated and maintained at a suitable potential during the process.
