Abstract
422,728. Cathode-ray tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and JESTY, L. C., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Nov. 6, 1933, No. 30800. [Class 39 (i)] Cathode - ray tubes for television &c. have a layer 9 of metal such as magnesium evaporated from a metal body 8 on to the envelope 10 near the fluorescent screen 4 to form a conducting coating connected to an electrode and to act as a getter, a shielding disc preventing deposition of the metal on the screen 4. The body 8 and disc 1 are moved within the envelope, after the evaporation process, out of the path of the cathode rays. The disc 1 is carried by an arm 2, connected by a spring 5 to the anode 3, and is held central by a filament 6 joined to a member 7 carried by an electrode. After the magnesium has been evaporated by eddy current heating, current is passed through the filament 6 to fuse it, and the arm 2 springs to the left and connects the metal layer 9 to the anode 3.
