541,567. Discharge apparatus. BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., and SAMSON, K. A. R. June 1, 1940, No. 9592. [Class 39 (i)] Metal is evaporated in an electron discharge tube, such as a photo-electric cell, cathode-ray tube or radio-receiving valve, by placing a pellet 4 of the metal in close proximity to a coil, preferably in the form of a helix 3 in series with a closed wire loop 2 mounted inside the envelope 1, and inducing a current in the loop by a magnetic field. The loop of wire may form the anode of a photo-electric cell, and a strip of platinum foil 8 connects the cathode layer on the envelope to its lead 7.
