Abstract

432,733. Thermionic valves. BULL, C. S., 33, Micawber Avenue, Hillingdon, Middlesex. Feb. 13, 1934, No. 4784. [Class 39 (i)] In an indirectly-heated cathode of the type in which the heating-filament is non- inductively wound to avoid hum the filament consists of two coaxial coils 1, 3 arranged one within the other and so proportioned that the resultant axial magnetic field at the emitting surface 8 is practically zero. The coils may be separated by an insulating tube 2 and the inner coil 1 may be of thicker wire than the outer. The electron emitting surface 8 may be carried on a tube 7 of refractory insulating material. Instead of the tube 2, the coils 1 and 3 may be coated with refractory insulating material.
