Abstract
419,096. Thermionic valves. M.O. VALVE CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London, SMITHELLS, C. J., and TRELOAR, L. R. G., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. June 24, 1933, No. 18051. [Class 39 (i).] An indirectly heated cathode is formed by coating a tungsten wire 1 of 0.1 m.m. diameter with a layer of alumina 0.1 to 0.2 m.m. thick, winding thereon a spiral of nickel wire 0.1 m.m. diameter and spraying on the spiral a coating of barium and strontium carbonates which coating is afterwards converted to the oxides ; the turns of the spiral are kept apart and after an appropriate length has been cut off a manufactured length, the structure is doubled as shown so that the magnetic fields of adjacent branches compensate each other. The earthed leads 5 are connected to the ends and middle of the cathode. Specifications 209,415, 278,787, 281,262, [all in Class 39 (i)], 360,715, 371,419, and 379,334 are referred to.
