Abstract
442,711. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. June 7, 1935, No. 16606. Convention date, June 9, 1934. [Class 38 (ii)] Comprises a transformer having its windings distributed over two or more limbs of the core, the neutral being insulated, in which the H.T. winding on each limb is in the form of a number of concentrically arranged cylindrical coils 3 with the coil next to the L.T. winding 1 connected to the neutral, the individual coils of the H.T. winding being insulated from one another by one or more layers 4 of absorbent paper, the thickness of which increases approximately in proportion to the voltage along the limb. The coils may increase in length towards the outside of the winding, the extremities of the coils lying approximately on a circular arc. The ends 2 of the insulation layers project and are bent over. A method of building up an insulation layer is described. Aluminium conductors with oxide insulation may be used.
