Abstract
690,022. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 17, 1952 [Jan. 20, 1901], No. 1375/52. Class 38 (ii). [Also in Group XXXVI] An electrically-insulating cylinder comprises a plurality of coaxial, superposed, substantially cylindrical turns of insulating material which has stress-distributing lines of conducting material positioned thereon substantially parallel to the axis of the turns. After winding, the cylinder may be impregnated with a resin and baked to a hard condition. In a transformer, three of these cylinders 22, 23, 24 may be arranged between the magnetic core 18, low-voltage winding 20, high-voltage winding 21, and casing 19. The cylinders 22, 23 are each provided at the upper end with an integral flange 25, 26 to form a continuous insulating barrier between the windings and earth. The stress-distributing lines may consist of a graphite phenolic resin varnish, and are stated to result in a uniform potential gradient across the flange portions of the cylinders.
