Abstract

431,167. Transformers. FOSTER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., Apex Works, South Wimbledon, London, and BAGNALL, R. I., Bembridge, Bourne Way, Hayes, Kent. March 21, 1934, No. 8862. [Class 38 (ii)] A transformer which may supply neon tubes and the like has its high tension winding arranged in two concentric sections 2<1>, 2<11> wound in the same direction and separated from each other by insulation 3<11>, the inner end of the inner winding 2<1> and the outer end of the outer winding 2<11> being connected to the transformer frame or earth at 4 and the load being supplied from leads 5 connected to the inner end of 2<11> and the outer end of 2<1>. The winding 2<1> is insulated from the core 1, which may be of the shell type as shown, at 3<1>. The layers of wire on each side of the insulation 3<11> are stated to act together with this insulation as a condenser, so that in conjunction with suitably determined inductance characteristics of the transformer a secondary voltage which is more peaked than the usual sine wave is produced.
