527,949. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 24, 1939, No. 12278. Convention date, April 26, 1938. [Class 38 (ii)] In order to obtain satisfactory distribution of voltage surges in the high tension winding of a transformer by modifying the capacity coupling between sections of the winding, the turns of successive pancake coils are arranged in the order indicated so that a high degree of coupling is obtained on both the inside and outside of the winding in the case of coils nearer to the high tension line a, a high degree of coupling is obtained on one side only in the case of the coils toward the middle of the winding, and a minimum of coupling is obtained in the case of coils at the lower end of the winding.
