Abstract
344,072. Metallic - vapour lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gl³hlampen ; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) Dec. 5, 1929, No. 37307. Convention date, Aug. 6. Addition to 343,053. [Class 39 (i).] In the glowdischarge tube of the parent Specification, the heating of the side tube, for maintaining constant the pressure of the vapour filling, is made dependent on the voltage across or the current intensity through the tube. A tube 1 is connected to the mains through a choke coil 5, and has a side tube 6 surrounded by a. heating winding 8 which is connected to the mains through a resistance 11. The energization of a, solenoid 18 causes a part of the resistance to be short-circuited by an armature 16 through contacts 14, 15. An increase of voltage across the tube. resulting from a reduction in the pressure of the filling, causes an increase in the current in the winding 8 and a subsequent increase in the vapour pressure. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the heating of the side tube is made dependent on the current by connecting the solenoid 18 in series with the tube. In a further modification, an increased heating effect may be obtained by adapting the solenoid to short-circuit a number of turns of the winding 8. Specification 314,925, [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.], is referred to.
