Abstract

421,848. Thermionic cathodes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and LE ROSSIGNOL, R., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Oct. 25, 1933, No. 29589. [Class 39 (i)] In electric discharge devices of the type comprising a vitreous envelope and a thermionic cathode of which a body of insulating refractory material forms a structurally essential part, the insulating refractory body is supported within the vitreous envelope by sealing part of it into the envelope, or into a portion projecting therefrom. The example shows an indirectly heated cathode wherein the insulating refractory body consists of a rod 1 of alumina upon one end of which a tungsten resistance wire is wound, and then sprayed with a suspension of alumina. A nickel tube 4 placed over the rod is connected to a leading-in wire 5 and coated with a mixture of materials which, when heated, produce a mixture of barium and strontium oxide. The entire structure is supported within the envelope by sealing the other end of alumina rod into the pinch 6. Specification 244,196, [Class 39 (i)], is referred to.
