Abstract
237,919. Hawadier, J. A. M., and Soc. Franþaise de Lampes Ó Incandescence Luxor. Aug. 2, 1924, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-In thermionic valves for wireless signalling of the type comprising a tubular cathode heated by an independent auxiliary filament passing therethrough, the cathode comprises a tube b of quartz or other refractory, insulating, homogenous material carrying on its outer surface a tungsten or molybdenum tube a covered with, or having incorporated therewith, thermionically active substances such as oxides of calcium, barium, strontium or thorium or mixture thereof, the tube b being held central about the heating filament d, and its end closed to confine heat and electrons from the filament d, by plugs f inserted in the ends of the tube b. The plugs f may be of nickel compressed around the filament leads e, e'. The filament d may be straight or helical and may be supplied with alternating current. The tube a is supplied with a lead c and is closely surrounded by a grid g and anode h.
