Abstract

301,855. Etablissements Gaiffe- Gallot et Pilon. Dec. 7, 1927, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes; Rontgen-ray tubes.-One part of each electrode in a discharge tube is adapted to be heated to incandescence so that each electrode may be used alternatively as the cathode or the anode, and means are provided to prevent the bombardment of an incandescible part when not in use by the cathode beam from the active cathode. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, each electrode A, B comprises a plate having a central recess in which a filament F is located. A metal rod C deflects the electrons from each filament away from the opposite filament. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the filament of each electrode is opposite the plate of the other electrode and out of the range of the cathode beam therefrom. Both filaments may be incandesced together to facilitate degassing the electrodes during the exhaustion of the tube, and also while the tube is in use, e.g. as a Rontgen-ray tube.
