Vacuum tubes. - A thermionic cathode and electrodes producing a secondary emission of electrons are made of a mixture or an alloy of molybdenum and thorium which is capable of emitting electrons without the employment of any heat treatment for rendering it active; or an electrode of molybdenum is mounted in a bulb and heated for a short time before or after being coated with thorium nitrate, no reducing or binding agent being employed.
