Abstract
533,451. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 23, 1939, No. 24293. Convention date, Aug. 26, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i) ] In a discharge lamp with filamentary electrodes coated with emission material and heated at least in starting by the passage of current, two auxiliary electrodes are provided for each main electrode, one connected to each of the leads, so that whichever side of the electrode is connected to the main supply during the discharge one auxiliary electrode will act as an anode and lessen the bombardment of the main electrode. For this purpose the auxiliary electrode may consist of V-shaped pieces of wire facing each other in a plane slightly behind the main electrode. A starting circuit comprising a heating circuit controlled by a switch is described. The lamp may be of the type containing inert gas and mercury, and may be lined with fluorescent material, such as zinc silicate or calcium tungstate.
