Abstract
488,047. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RYDE, J. W. May 11, 1937, No. 13422. [Class 39 (i)] A high-pressure metal-vapour lamp is provided with one or more auxiliary electrodes approximately in the straight line joining the main electrodes and insulated from the main electrodes and from each other. The auxiliary electrodes are preferably of tungsten, without an emissive coating, but may have such a coating. The Figure shows main electrodes 3, 3<1> of refractory material, activated starting electrodes 4, 4<1> and an auxiliary electrode 7 arranged as shown. The distance between the electrodes 3, 3<1> is 9 mm. and the wattage 250, the lamp containing mercury which is all vaporized in operation. Other dimensions are also given.
