[Class 39 (i)] Between the cathode of a cathode-glow lamp and the envelope is placed a wire gauze screen, insulated from both cathode and anode. In an arrangement for operation with D.C. the cathode 7 is a metal disc, enamelled at the back and surrounded by the anode 8. The screen 12 is supported from the anode by means of insulating beads 14. In a modification for operation with A.C., the two electrodes are plates side by side.
