367,271. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gl³hlampen ; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) June 9, 1931, No. 16775. Convention date, July 26, 1930. [Class 39 (i).] In luminous tubes having auxiliary electrodes to facilitate starting connected to the line through resistances, the auxiliary electrodes are brush or whisk-shaped, and consist of fine metal wires containing or covered with electronemitting substances, preferably oxides of alkali or alkaline-earth metals. In one construction, the main electrode 4<1> is pot-shaped, contains the auxiliary electrode 6<1>, and has one or more apertures 7 in its base. The main electrode 4 is in the form of a block, and both electrodes consist of a sintered mixture of refractory metals and electron-emitting substances. The auxiliary electrodes 6, 6<1> are connected to the line through resistances 9, 9<1>. In the case of a direct-current tube, one auxiliary electrode only is used, and is placed near the cathode. The main electrodes may be independently heated.
