April 5, 1932, No. 9797. Convention date, May 15, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] A tube 1 with thermionic electrodes 2, 3 of low work function contains heated filaments 4, 5 which are not connected to the electrodes 2, 3 and which emit electrons to ionize the filling at starting. The filaments may be coated with or mav heat blocks or sleeves of oxides or nitrides of alkali, alkaline earth, or rare earth metals, or of the metals themselves, and may be heated together with the main electrodes from a transformer 11 which may or may not be switched out after starting.
