Abstract
352,352. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent- Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gl³hlampen ; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) Oct. 24, 1930, No. 31995. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1929. [Class 39 (i).] In a positive - column luminous-discharge lamp a metal vessel 9 mounted within the lamp bulb 1 encloses an incandescent cathode 12, the anode 18 being mounted adjacent to the open end of a laterally projecting nozzle 17 provided near to the upper end of the casing, which is closed by a metal cover 10. A plate 11 of insulating material closing the lower end of the casing 9 is apertured to receive two glass tubes 15, 16 which extend from the pinch 3 and enclose wires 13, 14 supporting the cathode 12. The metal vessel 9 is supported by a wire 8 connected to a leading-in wire 4, and the anode 18, consisting of a transverse wire, is supported by a wire 19 connected to a leading-in wire 7. Cathode leading-in wires 5, 6 are connected to the wires 13, 14. The bulb is preferably filled with a rare gas, or may contain a mixture of a rare gas and a common gas or metal vapour. The discharge may be started by using the metal casing 9 as an auxiliary electrode by connecting it temporarily to the anode leading-in wire, a time-switch or other device being provided to disconnect it automatically.
