Abstract

422,256. Discharge lamps. SOC. DES LAMPES FOTOS, 41, Rue Cantagrel, Paris. March 19, 1934, No. 8619. Convention date, April 4, 1933. [Class 39 (i)] Cathode-glow lamps having within an envelope 1 a cathode 2 and an apertured anode 3 covered with mica or other insulation 6 on the side facing the cathode are provided with a mirror 9 reflecting the light rays through the envelope 1, and the cathode 2 is of white metal such as silver, plat. inum or palladium. Particles spluttered from the cathode are deposited on the mirror 9 and not on the part of the bulb where the light rays emerge and do not impair the reflecting properties of the mirror. The cathode may be a plate of one metal coated electrolytically with the white metal, or the cathode and mirror may be silvered or platinized glass plates. A small quantity of alkaline earth metal such as barium may be deposited on the cathode to prevent extinction of the discharge as described in Specification 412,024. The cathode and the mirror may be cup-shaped and concave respectively. One or more auxiliary electrodes, for example, an accelerating grid, may be arranged between the cathode and anode. The electrode leads 4, 5 are insulated by glass tubes.
