[Class 39 (i)] [See also Group XI] A low-pressure mercury-vapour lamp is provided with a blue glass envelope associated with calcium tungstate or other material which will give blue light when excited by the ultra-violet radiation from the discharge. The luminescent material may be on the inside or the outside surface of the blue envelope, or on a separate member outside the envelope so arranged as to give a distribution of light similar to that of the light passing through the envelope.
