447,202. Luminescent material in electric discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Patent - Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin) Nov. 19, 1934, No. 33232. [Class 39 (i)] [See also Group XX] Luminescent material consisting mainly of zinc silicate for use in a lamp, such as a mercuryvapour lamp which may contain also a rare gas in order to yield approximately whitelight, is subjected to the usual heat treatment, and thereafter ground preferably to a grainsize of about 1Á. to 5Á. The silicate may contain manganese in the proportion 0À1 to 0À5 per cent. The material may be deposited on the walls of the lamp, or on a screen inside or outside the lamp with the aid of a binder such as glycerine, boric acid, or water glass. If a thin layer which transmits the light from the lamp is used, the thickness of the layer may be adjusted to obtain various shades of daylight.
