Abstract
469,776. Luminescent screens for cathode-ray tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RANDALL, J. T. Feb. 7, 1936, No. 3798. [Class 98 (i.)] The screen coating comprises calcium silicate prepared as follows. - Pure silica in gel form is mixed with pure calcium carborate in proportions to yield mainly the compound CaO. SiO2, slight excess (not exceeding 10 per cent) of either lime or silica being permissible. The mixture is formed into a paste with pure water, sufficient manganese nitrate is added to give 0À5 per cent manganese in the final product, the paste is dried at 180‹ C. for 1 hour, ground, heated for 30 minutes at 1000‹ C. in air, reground, and heated for 1 hour at 1250‹ C. in air. A white powder results which may require grinding and sieving before use. Reference is made to the known use of two forms of natural calcium silicate (wollastonite).
