Abstract
567,494. Luminescent materials. TYRER & CO., Ltd., T., PEARCE SIGNS, Ltd., and SNOOK, H. H. Feb. 27, 1943, No. 3267. [Class 39 (i)] A fluorescent material comprises a calcium magnesium tungstate having equimolecular proportions of calcium and magnesium oxides and a proportion of tungsten trioxide not less than the equimolecular proportion, preferably between one and two molecules. A suitable activator is from to 5 per cent of lead oxide. The materials are sintered at 950-975‹ C. for, say, 2¢ hours, and ground ; if the necessary fluorescence is not obtained, 10 per cent of tungsten trioxide may be added and the mixture reheated. The particles are reduced to a uniform diameter of 50 Á by grinding, sieving and elutriation. The material 'gives a blue fluorescence when excited by a mercury or neon discharge or by cathode-ray bombardment. The Provisional Specification specifies 1.1 molecular proportions of tungsten trioxide and states that after-glow may be reduced by adding a small proportion of nickel or iron.
