Abstract
572,771. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). Feb. 4, 1943, No. 1902. [Class 39 (i)] A luminescent material comprises an alkaline earth silicate activated by either lead, thallium, bismuth, thorium, tantalum, tin, ziroonium, titanium, uranium, neodymium, samarium, serium, gadolinium, or scandium. In an example, calcium oxide and silica in equimolecular proportions are mixed and ground with enough lead acetate to give about one per cent by weight of lead to the other constituents. The resulting mixture is fired at 1100‹ C. for one hour. The phosphor may be added in a powdered state to the interior surface of an electric discharge lamp.
