Abstract
650,491. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and WELLS, R. S. May 12, 1948, No. 13047. [Class 39 (i)] A luminescent material comprising a matrix consisting solely of calcium sulphate is activated with one of the metals manganese, cadmium, bismuth, vanadium, cerium, silver, titanium, zirconium, thorium, tellurium, aluminium, mercury, nickel. The required amount of calcium sulphate is mixed with, for example, 2¢ per cent by weight of a compound of the required activator and the mixture fired at a temperature between 1100‹ C. and 1150‹ C. The Specification lists various compounds that may be utilized together with the percentage content of activator and the corresponding luminescent colours.
