517,908. Refractory substances. STEIN & CO., Ltd., J. G., and HYSLOP, J. F. Sept. 5, 1938, No. 25872. [Class 22] A refractory material consists of a mixture of periclase (40 to 90 per cent.) and magnesia spinel, the periclase being in particles of “ to 1/30 in. and the spinel in particles finer than 1/30 in. The spinel may be formed by calcining or fusing a mixture of magnesia and alumina and pulverizing the mixture or may be formed by mixing the constituents with periclase and firing it at 1,450‹C. or above. The material mixed with organic or inorganic binders may be used in unfired condition or may be fired to form bricks.
