Refractory building materials are obtained from a magnesia with up to 40% chrome ore, both of a maximum grain size of 0À1 mm., which are sintered together and then pulverized. The mixture or each of its ingredients can be mechanically activated before sintering. In place of chrome ore, materials containing an equivalent amount of Cr 2 O 3 can be used. The pulverized sinter can be used alone or mixed with chrome ore to form bricks, the sinter being suitably size graded.
