Abstract

1,131,648. Basic refractory bricks. OSTERBEICHISCH-AMERIKANISCHE MAGNESIT A.G. 31 Aug., 1966 [7 Oct., 1965], No. 38914/66. Heading C1J. Refractory bricks are produced by firing at at least 1700‹ C. without fusion a mixture of at least one substance containing chromium oxide with at least one substance yielding MgO on firing, graining and forming into bricks the sintered product which are then fired at 1500- 1600‹ C. and impregnated with tar, pitch, bitumen or asphalt. Preferably the SiO 2 of the sintered product is at most 5.5, with a Cao/SiO 2 ratio of at most 0.6. Impregnation can be in vacuo followed by superatmospheric pressure, with tar containing 80% of hard pitch. Grain size fractions are given; and a kieserite solution is used when forming the bricks.
