Abstract
1327749 Chrome magnesia refractory OSTERREICHISCH - AMERIKANISCHE MAGNESIT AG 7 Sept 1971 [7 Sept 1970] 41763/71 Heading C1J A refractory material comprises 65-90 wt. per cent chrome ore with a maximum particle size of 2À5 mm. and 35-10 wt. per cent magnesia, or an amount of compounds of magnesium which will on firing produce this percentage of magnesia, with a maximum particle size of 0À2 mm., the mix being briquetted and fired at a temperature over 1750 C., wherein substantially all the chrome ore is converted to secondary spinels. The SiO 2 and lime content must be at most 3À0% and 2À0% respectively, and the sum Cr 2 O 3 +Al 2 O 3 must be at least 40%. The cofired material is then comminuted, mixed with sulphite lye binder and boric acid, shaped into bricks and fired.
